K. CHINO,
ACOMA N.M. (KAREN CHINO,
ACOMA PUEBLO)
Karen is the daughter
of Emmalita Chino. She is a newer potter who is following in her mother's
footsteps. Traditional Acoma pieces are her favorite. This attractive polychrome pot is decorated in a classic Acoma design. The pot itself has nice solid walls and is nicely shaped, and would look just fine placed next to traditional pottery of past generations. The painted colors are very solid, with a strong sienna brown color predominating, and black solids and lines on white background all around WAS $402,50 $161.00 ($ USD) SALE PRICE |

POT
BY ERNA "BROOM FLOWER" CHOSA. She is a member of the sun clan, born in 1959. Half Hopi/Tewa and half Jemez she learned to pot from her Hopi grandmother Sarah Collateta. Her pottery is hand coiled and fired outdoors. A sharp eye will detect the influence of both her Hopi/Tewa and Jemez heritage. It has traditional Hopi designs; however, the colors are slightly muted befitting her Jemez heritage. Traditional Hopi pottery is by its very nature not perfect. Under very close inspection most pots will have some imperfections from stone polishing and firing. Even the best pieces have slight asymmetrical aspects from hand coiling. Potters apply natural pigment paints with yucca brushes. Consequently, variations in design, application and uniformity are present. These factors give traditional Hopi pottery its spirit and value. 5.5" x 4"approx. xxxxxx WAS $319,70 $127.80 ($ USD) SALE PRICE

Mimbres/Geometric - Mata Ortiz Pottery ARMANDO RODRIGUEZ CREATED AND SIGNED THIS RED SLIPPED OLLA - - AUTHENTIC MIMBRES AND CRISP GEOMETRIC DESIGN COMBINATIONS ARE HIS SPECIALITY. VERY WELL EXECUTED AND VERY COLLECTABLE. Art from the remote and colourful Mexican village that collectors call the best kept secret in the art world...MATA ORTIZ....the source of some of the worlds best pottery! Meticulously handmade in the ancient coil method - no potters wheel - fired over open ground - not in a kiln. Each piece a unique work of art using clay from the same beds harvested by prehistoric artisans. Nearby pre-Columbian Paquime/Casas Grandes was a vital pottery-making site on the ancient trade route from Southern Mexico to the Anasazi culture in Northern New Mexico. In the 1970s, Juan Quezada, a self-taught potter, became known for his replicas of regional prehistoric pottery. His now internationally famous works serve as the inspiration for those who followed, many of whom are recognised today in museums and galleries worldwide. Interesting reading: THE MIRACLE OF MATA ORTIZ by Walter Parks, THE POTTERY AND POTTERS OF MATA ORTIZ an Arizona Archaeological Society Publication. 3" x 5" approx. XXXXXXXXXX£258.75 SOLD
