The traditional ways of flute making were taught to him by a relative, W.F. Coyote.
Yazzie flutes are also played by professional flute players Raven Longbow, ElkWhistle, Windwalker, Illari, Fernando Cellicion, Scott August and ethnomusicologist Ernest Siva.

EACH FLUTE IS A WORK OF ART AND A ONE-OF-A-KIND
Marvin's flutes are carefully handmade the traditional way and each flute is custom made.
Mariv Yazzie selects the finest wood available. He uses the finest western red cedar, aromatic cedar, redwood or when available exotic hardwoods His flutes are all made by hand - one at a time. Each flute is then painstakingly shaped using a spoke shaver, and finally they are hand sanded and tuned to give each instrument a gentle sweet tone.
